The Alfadeca literacy teaching method is designed to increase students’ literacy results in Grades 1 and 2, while enhancing teacher practice and encouraging continuous improvement within educational communities. The Alfadeca programme was first implemented in 2018 in 5 classrooms within 4 schools, supporting 50 students. The programme has since expanded significantly, providing literacy support for 2,500 students in 90 classrooms along with teacher development to complement the programme.
To support programme growth, Oxford MeasurEd was contracted to conduct a full review of the Alfadeca Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning system (MEL) and provide recommendations for strengthening their data handling and reporting processes. We supported the data management and programme delivery teams to reflect on the purpose of each type of student, teacher and classroom environment data they collect and how they currently collect, manage, analyse and represent the data. We provided recommendations for strengthening the entire system, from data collection through to dissemination.
Key Activities:
Developing a conceptual map linking data collection, storage and analysis processes with internal and external users
Identifying existing bottlenecks in the data collection system and possible future bottlenecks as the programme expands, and propose mitigation strategies
Reviewing the Alfadeca MEL system and providing recommendations for strengthening it at every stage
Developing a data communication plan, including mapping of key information users and their data needs.
Developing reporting templates for disseminating learning to internal and external audiences
