Research in Education

Contributing to the global evidence base on teaching and learning.

Understanding education and learning and the factors that shape them is key to unlocking the changes needed to achieve SDG4. As experts in education, we carry out research that we believe can contribute to local and global understandings of how, where and why children, young people and adults learn.

Fundamentals of our Approach

At Oxford MeasurEd we pride ourselves on balancing academic rigour with a constant focus on the usability of our results and findings. We have expertise in a range of quantitative and qualitative methods and believe that rigorous research is research that is appropriately designed, independent, ethical and transparent. We start every project with the end-point, identifying the questions and evidence that we understand will be useful to our partners and the wider sector.

We are committed to amplifying the perspectives of learners and educators. We know that in order to achieve SDG4, the sector needs to understand the realities of learners’ and teachers’ lives. We regularly carry out quantitative and qualitative research with children and young people, older learners, educators and families, as well as other stakeholders in the sector.

We believe in making the most of existing evidence to provide answers to new questions and advance the global evidence base on learning. We carry out secondary analysis of existing data to understand teaching and learning in lower- and middle-income countries and draw out lessons, conclusions and recommendations.

Knowing that good quality data is essential for research, evidence and policy, we also carry out primary research. We deliver large-scale, quantitative and qualitative data collection activities, using our excellent project management processes and working with local partners to ensure that our work is contextualised, appropriate and high quality.
