Development of Values-Based Education Assessment Tools and User Guides

Client:             Aga Khan Foundation East Africa

Duration:        2022

Geography:     Kenya

Solutions:        Assessment

The Aga Khan Foundation, working in partnership with the Porticus Foundation, has been implementing a Values-Based Education programme, supporting the Government of Kenya in Mombasa and other target districts. This work is in response to a larger movement within Kenya to have attitudes and values be explicitly addressed in education. The Aga Khan Foundation and Porticus partnered with the Kenyan Institute of Curriculum Development to design and implement a values framework curriculum, a teacher professional development programme, and to develop tools for schools and teachers to help scale a Values-Based Education agenda across coastal Kenya.

Working closely with the Aga Khan Foundation team, Oxford Measured is supporting the development of contextually relevant assessment tools. This will complement the values framework curriculum and contribute to the set of tools and materials for the scale-up of the Values-Based Education programme in the Coastal region.

Key Activities:

  • Conducting psychometric analysis on pilot tool performance

  • Reviewing and revising draft tools based on pilot performance data

  • Developing a user guide for effectively using the assessment tools for use by teachers and other education actors
