Client:             Room to Read

Duration:        2019 - 2021

Geography:     Tanzania and Sri Lanka

Solutions:        Evaluation, Assessment

In 2018 Room to Read joined a partnership with Credit Suisse, Plan International UK and Aflatoun International, piloting the FELS programme within Room to Read’s Girls’ Education Program. The programme aimed to help girls develop critical life skill competencies, including increased financial literacy skills and knowledge. The FELS programme sought to achieve three overarching objectives:

1.     Girls increase their knowledge of financial concepts

2.     Girls feel confident about managing and making decisions about their personal finances

3.     Girls share their learning with peers, families, and others in the community.

In 2019, Oxford MeasurEd conducted an evaluation of the FELS programme in Sri Lanka and Tanzania. The evaluation explored the extent to which the programme achieved its intended outputs and outcomes, and what additional improvements could be made. This mixed methods evaluation focused on analysis of programme outcome data, supplemented by qualitative interviews and focus groups with program stakeholders at participating schools and Room to Read country and global offices. The outputs of the study were focused on supporting strategic decision-making for Room to Read.

Key Activities:
