The Assessment for Life Skills and Values in East Africa (ALiVE) is a five-year project of the Regional Education Learning Initiative (RELI). Since 2020 ALiVE has defined three key life-skill and values and has developed a robust set of measurement tools to generate evidence on adolescents’ learning levels in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The evidence generated to create awareness and advocate for greater government focus on nurturing life skills and values. Working within the ALiVE Community of Practice, the project will also strengthen local expertise in assessment and contribute to regional evidence generation and credibility for Social and Emotional Learning measurement & advocacy.
Oxford MeasurEd was the Global Learning Partner for ALiVE. In this role, we supported ALiVE to gather summative learning from their work to date and to develop a robust system for continuously collect formative learning in coming years. We worked collaboratively with ALiVE project learning lead organisations including Zizi Afrique Foundation and Strathmore University in Kenya, Luigi Giussani Institute of Higher Education and UWEZO in Uganda and GLAMI and the Milele Zanzibar Foundation in Tanzania. We also worked with 20 other organizations from RELI’s Values and Life Skills (VaLi) thematic learning cluster.
Key Activities:
Conducting a document review and consolidating and synthesizing learning from ALiVE’s collaborative work through project stakeholder interviews and workshops
Supporting the development and set-up of systems for learning
Supporting institutionalisation and organisational growth for learning lead organisations
